As an author and editor,
Clarissa J. Markiewicz has worked in media from novels to newspapers. Her
writing has appeared in such publications as U.S. News & World
Report, The Buffalo News, and Art Times, and has won
commendation on local and national levels, including by Rolling Stone magazine.
Her career officially began as grand prize winner of the Scholastic
Inc./Jackson Browne “Write Lyrics” contest. She holds a BA in English from The
Ohio State University, where she was nominated for the prestigious Joseph V.
Denney Award in English studies. As a graduate student in creative writing at
Harvard University, she studied under Pulitzer Prize–winning author Paul
Harding.
Clarissa has served as copywriter
and editor of numerous print and Web-based texts for businesses, including
Coca-Cola Enterprises. She is currently a freelance fiction editor under
exclusive employ, and has recently finished penning her own novel.
Her other professional
experience lies in theatre and musical performance, having worked on and off as
an actress since 1993, and as a vocalist since 2001. Her most recent television
appearance was in a 2010 regional commercial. In 2016, she appeared as guest
vocalist on the indie rock–jazz album Serve with Straw by Diane Taber &
Sunspots.
Clarissa is a proud member
of the National Writers Union. She also has a special place in her heart for
the Buffalo Sabres, adores Elementary, and knows more about
1990s Star Trek, 1980s pop music, The West Wing, and Barney
